I want to be a surgeon

Posted: January 10, 2011 in Uncategorized

I love today very much. The class is really interesting and I don’t feel too tired today and that’s because I’m excited to wear my scrub and enter the operation theater. Yes, it’s not my first time to enter the OT but today’s going to be the last time I’m entering the OT for this semester and tomorrow’s going to be our last class for semester 6.

So, I made a ranking of my favourite rotations this semester:

1) Surgery

2) Internal medicine

3) Urology

4) Nephrology

And here’s a list of my favourite tutors from semester 1 to semester 6:

1) Dr. Sahar Garbaly(chest department)

2) Dr. Ahmad Lutfy(surgery department)

3) Prof. Dr. Atef(physiology department)

4) Dr. Yakout(specialized medicine)

5) Dr. Samir(surgery department)

6) Prof Dr. Amani(biochemistry department)

7) Dr. Azza(histology)

8) Dr. Nesreen(physiology department)

Just so you know, the above lists are clearly only my opinion so no need to make harsh judgement.

So, today during our clinical training in the surgery department, Group B (Me, Ayien, Fatimah) went to the OT and we saw a case of sub total thyroidectomy, cholecystectomy, colonic bypass and two cases of inguinal hernia. It’s really cool to watch the patient being anesthetize and he would suddenly starts to drift into unconsciousness. And then there’s this one year old baby who won’t stop crying and the nurse had to cuddle him to calm him down. The baby actually has a recurrent case of inguinal hernia and another surgery had to be done to correct it (i forgot what procedure  the doctor gonna use). And the best part is seeing our tutor, Dr. Ahmad Lutfy doing cholecystectomy by laparoscopic procedure. We cheered him on while he tried hard to separate the gall bladder from the liver by electrocoagulation. And when he did we all clapped our hands….haha cheesy :D Here are the pictures of the bloody gall bladder. Warning, do not look if you can’t handle blood.

the human gall bladder(opened by incision) with multiple stones in it

another clearer picture of the stones for your view,

Too bad I haven’t got any pictures of Dr.Lutfy doing the surgery. We are too excited that we forgot to take any.

And we took pictures with the surgeons as a memory of semester 6.

Ayien and her favourite tutor.........

ok, good bye everybody…remember to wash your hands before going out of the OT.

Cartoons for me

I never missed this show when it was aired on Disney. My sister and I will always ran to the kitchen to watch Madeline whenever we heard the intro song being played. I wish I have a coat like Madeline too…

Madeline & Genevieve the dog

the only redheaded girl

This show is my favourite and now that I remember, I learn French because of this show. My favourite part is when Madeline runs to Ms Clavel and said “Ms Clavel, something is not right!”(in French accent).

And there’s the little lulu show which I like too. But I didn’t really like Lulu because she can be a little too grumpy when annoyed. She also likes to play with her skirt…

Chere Ice Lemon Tea,

Salut! How’s life in Manchester? Are you having lots of fun there? I’ll be joining you there in February so you better make plans for me, lots of it! I really miss you especially today because it’s your birthday. We used to celebrate it together at Bramble Rose with a homemade cake or ayoh just bought it from the Chinese bakery at Jalan Nara in Pasir puteh. Then we will sing you the birthday song and that’s it. Mama will cook something special for lunch and have picnic in the garden. Oh, how I miss the ‘beringin’ tree! We always hide from Mama and Ayoh on those trees, rereading Harry Potter books when we weren’t supposed to and avoiding Kakrin’s nagging to do chores and unnecessary chores. Did you miss me too? I’m asking you because you haven’t been answering my calls and messages. I guess there’s something wrong with your Iphone4. If you happens to read my letter, please call me. At least twice a week.  Im, this is a song for you…listen to this when you’re feeling lonely, ok.

You know, you used to be fun but now you are less less fun…boring actually. I know you are going through a hard time but please don’t let your emotions drown you. I think I already tried to make you happy but I failed, I don’t know how but anyways I send you these songs to cheer you up for your birthday today. I love you very much.
LOVE,
Your sister, Seagrass

Ponyo the Red Goldfish

Posted: December 21, 2010 in Uncategorized

Yesterday I watched this animated film, “Ponyo on the cliff by the sea”. It is a film by Studio Ghibli, written and directed by the Hayao Miyazaki, the same person who directed the eccentric film, “Spirited Away”. I really like the film and it reminds me of “The Little Mermaid” by Disney. It’s is a story of a fish who ran away from home to see the human world on the surface. She got caught in glass jar and got rescued by  Sosuke, a five years old human boy. Eventually they developed a special friendship with each other and Sosuke promised to take care of Ponyo forever. Ponyo, then wishes to become  a human girl to stay with Sosuke but she is brought back to sea by her furious father. That’s a little extract of the film. You have to watch this film. It’s very entertaining and the story really touches about the pure innocence of childhood love. I’m going to watch it again tomorrow. Ponyo, Ponyo, ponyo….this song are stuck in my mind.

I’m watching the Lunar eclipse tonight, on live stream T__T. The Lunar eclipse isn’t visible in the middle east but is visible in all America, some parts of Europe and in the far east. I’m planning to stay up all night to watch this divine phenomenon but the problem is I have class tomorrow at 9 a.m so maybe I’ll sleep just a little bit and set the alarm clock. I really don’t want to miss it~

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nasa-msfc#utm_campaigne=synclickback&source=http://www.nasa.gov/connect/chat/lunar_eclipse.html&medium=6539981

“The last time the Earth’s shadow eclipsed the moon during a winter solstice was 1632, according to NASA. The next time won’t be until 2094.”

“You have the Earth blocking the direct sunlight, but all around the outside edge of the Earth is like a lens that will bend sunlight forward onto the moon,” said Bruce McCurdy, who will work Monday night — weather permitting — at the Telus World of Science’s observatory in Edmonton.

“So the moon, instead of being bright and white, will be quite dim and something in the sunset spectrum of colours — orange to even brick-red in some cases.”

At the start of the eclipse, Earth’s shadow will appear as a dark-red bite at the edge of the lunar disc. Over the course of the next 72 minutes, the moon will appear to be consumed by the shadow. The eclipse will be its most vivid at that point — about 2:40 a.m ET — with the moon appearing as a dim orange-red disc as sunlight is refracted through the Earth’s atmosphere to give the moon its unusual hue.

Kausar

I met Kausar for the first time on 8th February 2008. It was my first day in medical school and I’m feeling lost but Kausar made things less difficult for me. From that day on, we became friends and I hope our friendship will remain forever. The first time I met her, I was so taken by her beauty, she has nice lips and eyes and I just love the way she crinkled her nose! She has charming personality, and she’s a little sensitive but bubbly at the same time.

Kausar, the new girl.(2008)

This is the first picture of her that I have. It’s taken on the first day that I met her. She look much better in person though. Please note that she doesn’t fit this mini dress anymore! haha! yes, over these 3 years, she has grown a little bit fat, but not fat, FAT she just put on a tiny bit of weight. Yes, we can blame the chicken burger she has been eating every lunch break at school.

Kausar and Kakren(2009

She looks very nice in green hijab, this is one of my favourite picture of her.

Kausar and Sheha the cat

Squishy-squishy Sheha!

Doing a class presentation together back in semester 5 (2010)

Smile~~~~~

How time flies *sigh*…………

We really grew up together, I had always feel like I have known her for a long time. There’s something magically familiar about her when we first met. It’s been 3 years and now she’s getting married already. Yes, she is! She’s getting married this February in Sheffield, United Kingdom. How romantic is that! It was a family match. Kausar is not the type of girl that date boys. I can’t believe she’s engaged already. Only last night we talked about Korean boybands and having silly crushes with pretty boys and actors. haha! we’re such a silly girls~~ Anyways, below is the announcement her Ummi made on Facebook about her engagement.

Ameen.”

There. I’m so happy for her and naturally I wish the best for her, in this world and in the hereafter. oh, yeah! I’m also attending her ‘akad nikah’ at Sheffield this February! I can’t wait :D and Kausar, if you happen to read this please know that I really love you so so so so so so much! Chonen, nomu nomu nomu nomu nomu nomu nomu chua! and I looooooooooove to hug you too! XOXO

Much ado about nothing.

This semester is a busy one for me. I started my clinical years this semester, got a thesis to complete and have loads of end of rotation test to pass. But it’s fun and I really enjoy my life in medical school and Egypt. I also signed up as a member of academic unit for Malaysian students in Mansoura and I joined the Basketball club and Arabic course class. I really need to improve my Fushah and at the same time polish my French.
